Dogs, story inspiration and progress

Random title, eh? Yes, it is.

Last night was among the more interesting nights in my life- the kind of interesting I would care to not repeat. For starters, we attended a tax-day 'tea party' protest. It was very encouraging and inspiring to see that we are NOT alone in this. It was also very frustrating to remember just HOW deaf and indifferent the politicians are being to our cries. But that wasn't the 'interesting' part. The 'interesting' part came at about 2am... when my lame sister (ok, she's not LAME, but she DID break her toe) begged me to take the dog outside. She'd already taken Maggie (dog) out twice, she said. To put it lightly... Maggie was having some... tummy trouble. So I got up from my nice warm bed, let doggie outta her crate and followed said doggie across the house to the door. Unlocked said door, grabbed a coat, and slipped my feet into the shoes waiting just outside the door (that's what they're there for). Said shoes, however, were fully of VERY cold water. So I ditched that idea. That left me barefoot in whatever-lower-degree weather barefoot, in my PJs at 2am in the morning standing in the grass with a dog who seemed to be MUCH more interested in sniffing around than actually DOing something. I waited about 5min. Nothing. So we went back inside.

2:30am, same thing happened, almost exactly (except this time I got smarter- 1, I didn't stick my feet in the cold rubber shoes with water in them. 2, I let her out on the long leash so I didn't have to stand outside).

It would seem she had SOME progress during this time, as puppy-dog didn't wake me up again until 5:40am. However, from about 2:30am-5:40am I DREAMED about taking her out (only, in the dreams, my whole family got up at, like, 3am... which would be, like, impossible).

When it happened again... I just decided to get up. Now I'm tired and have a long day ahead... oh yeah, really looking forward to that. The one benefit to all this was the magnificent story inspiration. Much TOO magnificent, if you ask me. I think I owe one or two of my characters an apology... then again, I probably owe MOST of them an apology in one degree or another... *grin*

*CaptainJack* There. I said it. I feel better for it. (those of you who have not seen the bloopers for POTC: Dead Man's Chest will miss the reference) =D

As to progress on my little 'ApNoWriMo'... I have 22,209 words completed as of last night (35 pages). That's about 5,000 words ahead of where I need to be! Exciting. AND I managed to edit chapters 12 and 13 (and keep up with school) in the process. So yeah. Zoomin' right along. Whoohoo. Yeehaw. Ayup.

Off t' write some more... *maniacal laughter*

The Not-So-Epic Saga of Oodstu and Rilloma (pt1)

Word verification='uh oh' for all of you; 'mwahahaha' for me... especially when I have nothing better to write about... *insane grin* First time I've ever tried a 'blog story' too... hehe! (please note... this is nothing like the novel I'm writing. That'd be embarrassing.) :-D

The Not-So-Epic Saga of Oodstu and Rilloma
Part I- In Which The Rutabagas Are All Gone.

Once upon a time, there were two tiny trolls named Oodstu and Rilloma. Now, most people think of trolls as big and nasty. Or else, little and nasty. But Oodstu and Rilloma were neither. They left the 'big and nasty stuff' to their cousin, Bim (who cracked coconuts for a living) and the 'little and nasty' stuff to their uncle, Barm, who was a world-class meatloaf fryer (the person who works in the back deep-frying meatloaf, doncha know). But Oodstu and Rilloma didn't like to fry meatloaf either. They were vegetarians and their diet consisted largely of kale and rutabaga. It was the rutabaga that turned their hair cotton-candy blue, too. (Rutabaga often has that effect on trolls, it seems) Oodstu stood about a quarter of a meter off the ground and Rilloma sat about half a quarter of a meter off the ground (because, you see, Rilloma never stood up). And they were very happy. Except, of course, when it rained and they had to find another sandwich bag to live in. However, there were plenty of sandwich bags around the old rubber ducky manufacturing plant where they lived, so they were never without. (Don't ask me why there were so many sandwich bags, nor why the rain only ever rained on top of one at a time, for I truly don't know)

So one day Oodstu and Rilloma were taking a walk. Only, Rilloma wasn't walking, because she never stood up and therefore never walked. (Don't ask me why Rilloma always sat down, nor how she got around so well while managing to never stand up, for I truly don't know.) They were walking to their garden, which they always kept a little distance from the house. They did this just in case they should need to move in a hurry. That way, they wouldn't have to drag their garden around so much, for the suitcase in which it was planted was awfully heavy, especially with all those rutabagas growing in it (for rutabagas are rather heavy when you're only a quarter of a meter tall or a half of a quarter of a meter, doncha know).
"Which shall we eat today, Oodstu?" Rilloma asked, turning her head slightly so he could hear her. Oodstu lagged a little behind his wife. Odd, considering he was the one who stood and she the one who sat.
"Kale and rutabaga," the tiny woman continued, "Or rutabaga and kale?"
"Kale and rutabaga," Oodstu replied after thinking it over carefully. (Oodstu always thought things over carefully, doncha know). "We've had rutabaga and kale for at least a day in a row!"
Rilloma nodded solemnly. "Oh yes, that's right. And it isn't good for us to have such repetition in our diet. It might make us grow taller."
They shared a shudder at the thought. If there was one thing Oodstu and Rilloma dreaded more than anything else, it was growing taller, or thinner, or handsomer. So they were always very careful to avoid this (and did a fairly good job at it as well). Soon, the couple arrived at the garden and commenced to choosing the very ripest kale for their supper. Rilloma always insisted on finding the ripest kale, but neither of them could ever quite determine just how to tell whether a kale was the ripest or not. So they just went with their best guess. Then it was time for the rutabagas- their very favorite. Oodstu always insisted on picking the plumpest rutabaga for their meals, but, then again, it was rather hard to find a plump rutabaga, and even harder to tell if it was the plumpest. So they always just went with their best guess. Only, today, there was a problem. There was no plumpest rutabaga to be found! In fact... there were no rutabags to be found at all!
Oodstu smiled wide like he always did when he was upset. "There aren't any rutabaga!"
"There aren't any rutabaga," Rilloma echoed, smiling in shock. "The first time in at least twenty years! Maybe even twenty-one!"
"And if there aren't any rutabaga," Oodstu said slowly, after thinking it over carefully, "That means the rutabaga must be all gone!"
"And if the rutabaga are all gone..." his wife continued, her smile of distress growing larger, "That means there aren't any!"

Once Oodstu and Rilloma had quite determined that there weren't any rutabaga, and that consequently the rutabaga must be all gone, they decided that they ought to do something about it. After all, what good was kale without rutabaga? And what good was rutabaga without kale? (Only... that didn't really matter at the moment, since there were no rutabaga and therefore there would be no eating of kale anyways.) At first Oodstu and Rilloma considered calling loudly for their rutabaga. They quickly decided against that, however, because Oodstu thoughtfully pointed out that rutabaga don't have ears. Their second idea was to run an ad in the paper for the missing rutabaga. But they decided against that too, because Rilloma reminded Oodstu that, if they let the world know their precious rutabaga were missing, someone else might go and find them and not bring them back! It took about an hour before they decided on their course of action- they would go and find the rutabaga themselves.

To be continued...

Blermin

So there I was... posting a comment on Tahlia's blog. Word verification plopped up. The word was 'blermin'. I thought to myself... ok. There's my blog topic! BLERMIN!!! *big grin* It's incredibly random, but I think I can make a post outta this! :-D

What does 'blermin' make you think of? I mean, really... it has such potential! A random collaboration of words meant to put off any spambots... and it comes up with *dramatically* blermin. It could be some ancient breed of fish that could breathe on land and sea and underground. Or howabout a dwarfish curse word? *gravelly voice* "Aww, blermin!" Then again, it could be a flavor of lollipop, or a construction tool that glues things together, or a special fabric used to make pet beds... the possibilities are as endless as your random-creativity! Determine for yourselves what fits best! *lightbulb; goes to create poll*

*reads above post* Oy, am I tired...

Forgetting what you wanted to write about....

Oy. I caught pneumonia as a secondary infection last week. So I've been in bed all week. Which I hate. But that's life. :-P Especially today, however, I was thinking about my next blog entry. I had two rather good ideas... and forgot both of them when I took a nap. Ergo, I guess I can only write about the entries I WAS gonna write about and hope that maybe, just maybe, one or two will come back to me...

Of diapers, dishes and long-gone characters

If that isn't random, I don't know what is. But that's my life. Change a diaper... write. Make a meal... write. Do the dishes... write. Hang wit the LB (little boys, for those of you unfamiliar with MIT lingo).... write. Do school.... write. Get some fresh air... you get the idea. It's my life now, and I'm dearly hoping that will continue to be my life, when this MIT/writer turns into a MIP/writer (MIP=Mother in practice... also known as MFR, or, Mother for real) with lots of LK to call her own. Surprisingly enough, even though I love my story, my characters and everything about writing, I find I enjoy changing Zoob's diaper (read: the normal, everyday things in life) just as much. There's a sort of fulfillment and joy in just LIVING and doing the everyday tasks of living- diapers, dishes, etc, etc. *shrug* Another of those funny things you learn about life when you get to be as old (hehehe) as I am. *grin*

On another note... I've been invaded. A character I kicked from my story into another story long ago has resurfaced. At first it was innocent- he showed up as a part of the background in a tavern one of my MCs was entering. Next thing you know, he stalks some other good guys, accosts that MC and makes a general nuisance of himself. He is dead set on seeing three OTHER MCs- MCs that are off limits, you understand- and has promised me he won't rest until he sees them, even though I told him that he would get in trouble with the 'caretaker' of those off-limit MCs. He said he'd sneak in when the 'caretaker'- if you could call Jack a 'caretaker'- wasn't around. Which means he's been reading my outlines and knows there's gonna be ONE time, one single stinkin' time, when Jack isn't around to stop him. *weary sigh* I'm gonna have to lay down a law regarding characters reading those outlines... can't have them all pullin' stunts like this on me... *insane grin*

Math Music

Math and music go together. I wrote an 11-paged research paper on the subject of music's affect on the mind, but I can't really go into all the details about how and why NOW and HERE. Suffice it to say, music has very interesting stimulative effects on the brain in many different areas/ways. I've experienced this first-hand. And I would recommend to anyone struggling in their math- listen to some good music and you'll soar. However, I've noticed that, for me, it has to be a certain TYPE of music. Don't ask me why. In fact, I have a playlist on my iPod with only 7 songs- deemed the very best math songs. These happen to be tracks from the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtracks:
(the order doesn't really matter, as I always listen on 'shuffle')
1. The Medallion Calls (POTC: COTBP)
2. He's a Pirate (POTC: COTBP)
3. Jack Sparrow (POTC: DMC)
4. Wheel of Fortune (POTC: DMC)
5. Up is Down (POTC: AWE)
6. One Day (POTC: AWE)
7. Drink up, me hearties yo ho (POTC: AWE)

I normally just listen to my whole library on shuffle or just the POTC soundtracks, but yesterday I thought about it carefully, compiled those songs, and got a MUCH better grade on my math than I've been getting. Speaking of math... that's really where I ought to be right now. *glances around furtively, then runs into the kitchen*

Cup O' Tea

*sigh* I guess I know that Christmas break really is over now. I just drank the last cup of my Christmas tea. My grandparents gave me a box of 'chai latte mix' (yummy!) for Christmas, with 8 packets of mix. I used HALF a packet for a cup of tea. And today... I slowly sip the last packet. *sigh, then brightens* Oh well... at least I still have the mug... my favorite- it reads "Please do not annoy the writer. She may put you in a book and kill you." *grin*

Well... I know that was random, but I've got a bunch of schoolwork on my plate, so TTFN, Blogland!
